Is it realistic to get married on a $10, 000 budget…? And tip, tricks would be appreciated…PLEASE?

My mother-in-law wants to marry my sister on a $10, 000 budget…including wedding, reception, flowers, dresses, photography, etc. IS IT POSSIBLE?

It is possible if you have a lot of time to plan and many crafty people to help out!
Use roses- they are cheap. get married on weekday and during the off-season (maybe fall or winter) if you are using a venue. if you are getting married at a relative's house, then you can get married on a Saturday night or a more popular time of day and year.
Dry receptions are cheaper, but beer and wine ones are a less expensive option if you want to drink.
David's bridal has beautiful $99 gowns if you hit the sales. After wedding season (spring/summer), hit up eBay and Craigslist for bridesmaid dresses. Go to David's Bridal and try on bridesmaid dresses, so you know what style/color(s) you want, that way you know exactly what to get online. also, for bridesmaids, get short or tealength so you don't have to spend $100 for a hem.
If the bride isn't super tall, you can order a petite length gown to save 100-150 on her hem. (this is big, because with alterations a $99 gown can turn into $500).
Photography is not somewhere you want to skimp, because pictures last forever and quality is important.
Lunchtime receptions are good, because people drink less booze and you can serve less food- just appetizers and stuff- no sit down meal or anything.

yes! wow she is VERY lucky her MIL is paying for it, if she wants to spend more then she can add to that budget but she shouldnt need to. god be greatful most people have to pay for it themselves and wont be any where near a $10,000 budget

You can absolutely do this. Ours cost $12,000 but we could easily have cut out another $2,000 or more by choosing a different venue or by having a stand up cocktail party instead of a sit-down three course dinner.

This site has some great ideas for reducing costs without looking cheap: http://www.weddingideasguide.com/moneysa…

Hope this helps!

It's possible, but tight. I am a wedding photographer and my most expensive package is $4550 and the cheapest is $1200. You can get cheaper packages with less cover time. I don't suggest hiring someone who has never done a wedding. You get what you pay for.
You can find dresses cheap. You can get decorations cheap. Fake flowers. yadda yadda yadda. how big is the guest list? You can have a buffet or have your guest do a pot luck and bring their own food. Save on entertainment by asking around. the guys who usually DJ at bars on the weekend are cheap.

Get the book DIY bride it is amazing and will help save a fortune

My brother and his fiance are planning a wedding on a 10,000 budget. It could depend on where you live. we live in Ohio. They are having their wedding on a friday night to save money because vendors are not as expensive on days that aren't Saturday.

Her photographer gave her a discount because it is on a friday and she is paying 1900. the woman takes amazing photos! She is creating her own centerpieces. She bought a knock off designer gown for 800. Her venue is awesome! not many people know about it and because the people that own it don't advertise they can keep their costs down. She is having a full dinner for 120 guests for 3000.

If you really research and look around you can find amazing deals. also your sister needs to figure out where she is willing to cut costs. for example my soon to be sister in law doesn't really care about a big cake. She is still going to have something but she is not going to spend a lot of money on that. She is found a friend who does flower arranging that can make the bouquets for a fraction of the cost.

One of the best things she did was find a venue that had character and does not need a whole lot of decorating. That saves a lot of money too.

It can be done.

Our budget is also $10,000, but we had tons of help:

Our friend is a pro photographer. only paying him $150 because that's all he'd take from us.
Another friend compiled hundreds of jazz songs onto six CDs for our reception music. Free.
Our decorations are very simple: Floating candles in bowls, damask patterns in unexpected places, and vintage accents. Costing us about $200.
My dress was couture last year, and had the price knocked down to $300. After alterations, it's now $800. still gorgeous.
Only my bridesmaids get flowers. I do have 6 of them, so that's going to be $415. Wholesaler's daughter is providing the bouquets.
The food is where our money went: $5000 for 100 people.
We're having an open bar where the final bill is based on consumption only — we'll have to deal with that later.

If you decide what is most important to you (for us, it was great food), then that's where you spend your money. Every other decision is made, then, based around what is most important to you.

Big time. Depending on how many guests. I would say you could have a very good wedding for 100ppl on that.

My wedding budget will be ten thousand dollars and that is definitely enough for my small town Southwestern Ontario setting. So yes it is possible, but the different prices really depend on the area you live in. if you are looking to cut corners or save money somehow, I would say do it in the decorating costs. Opt for smaller center pieces, skip the extras that arent that necessary…things like that will trim alot. I suggest not skimping on the photographer though, you are spending so much money on that day, you want the photos to capture all of it very well. also, don't opt to set your i-pod on shuffle and hook it up to a stereo system instead of a DJ, a good dj is so much better at reading the crowds mood and keeping the atmosphere lively.

It's totally possible.
Tips:
-Keep the guest list small
-do only appetizer or dessert reception
-Simplify flowers… instead of bouquets for the bridesmaids, have each carry only 1 flower tied with a ribbon; keep centerpieces small, do floating flowers and candles in a small glass bowl, or fore go flowers and just do candles
-Play music off an I-Pod instead of hiring DJ
E-mail me if you would like more help. Good Luck!!

Your MIL is marrying your sister? Wow, that's unusual.

Is it possible? Yes. however, it depends on your venue, whether you are having it catered or not, how much the photographer charges, how many guests you intend to have (50 vs. 150).

I could have gotten married three times on that budget. She just has to do a lot of the work herself (decorations, planning, etc.), shop for sales, look for wedding venue packages, chose an inexpensive venue, possibly use a student photographer, chose an affordable menu, keep the guest list reasonable, forgo the limo, chose a dress based on appearance instead of designer name, and she'll still have MONEY TO SPARE.
