Which DSLR to buy- Canon EOD 1000d or Nikon D 3000?

Am looking for an entry level dslr…
i have been using canon ixus 85is…. every time i click i crave for a dslr…

i can qualify as amateur…
i need it to click frnds ..parties…some outdoors and portraits
I have gone through the reviews on dpreview…but cant figure out…

Can some one with exp let me know which will suit me..

I own and recommend the 1000D. Superb photos and build. very easy to learn and operate but you've got to read the book.

Here's some examples of what I'm getting with mine. the first shot is just a demonstration of what can be done with slave flash, if you're so inclined. I'm still semi-pro so I think about those kinds of things.
